For the Kenyan NGO Pamoja Trust, I developed the business model for a citizen journalism news agency. As part of the work, I developed a training course, which I conducted as well.
The training course is meant to train citizen journalists who work for the Mizizi News Agency (‘Mizizi’ means ‘Roots’ in Swahili). The Mizizi News Agency focuses primarily on stories about informal settlements in Kenya.
Part of business model is to train youth from the informal settlements to become citizen journalists. The stories are being produced in writing and multimedia and are published through own channels, as well sold to third parties.
Goal is to create an independent and sustainable platform for news from informal settlements, which are largely neglected by mainstream media.
